Test Tips for Teachers
teacher_tipsNational Teachers Association have adapted some suggestions how to help students do better on tests:

1. Tell students about the test format and the areas it will contain
- Practice using time limits for students to complete test tasks. If you notice that students have some difficultes and are short of time, start with longer practice time limits and little by little decrease the time allowed.
- Find out students’ opinion about the test. Discuss what problems they had with specific questions, paying attention to the possible reasons why some questions where correct and others were not.

2. Talk with students and their parents about the tests.
- Make sure students know why they are being tested and how their results are used.
- Let students and their parents know about the place where the test will take place, what is the aim of certain testing, and how parents can help to prepare their children to do their best.
- Assure students that you have a positive attitude to them. Students pay much attention to teacher’s expectations. They should know that you expect them to succeed and that you will be there to help them do well.

3. Remind students before the test about:
- reading and following task directions attentively.
- reading each question and answers carefully before choosing the best variant
- time limits, advise students to answer at first easy questions and use time efficiently
- mark answers as shown in the directions
- check their work before handing on
