Listening Proficiency Level Descriptions 

H
Advanced High or Higher
A listening proficiency rating of H denotes that students are at the Advanced High or Higher level. Students at this level can understand the most important thoughts and aspects on different topics, together with those that are new to them. They understand radio broadcasts, reports, and public addresses on non-technical topics. On the other hand, they may have complexity understanding extremely specialized discussions. Students can understand a speaker who uses words to say more than their easy meaning.
A
Advanced
A listening proficiency rating of A denotes that students are at the Advanced level. They can understand the majority of the key ideas and details of spoken descriptions, stories, interviews, short lectures, news items, and other realistic reports on a lot of topics. Students have a good understanding of the majority of discussions concerning events in past, present, and future time. In addition they can understand the order of ideas in spoken language. On the other hand, students may have complexity understanding the message when ideas are not presented in order.

Intermediate High
A listening proficiency rating of + means that students are at the Intermediate High level. They can go after most, but not all, of the significant parts of a discussion in addition to some details on topics that they know. They have not completely developed the ability to understand completely descriptions, stories, interviews, short lectures, news items, and reports. Students may still get the wrong idea of some parts of what they hear.
I
Intermediate
A listening proficiency rating of I denotes that students are at the Intermediate level. Students at this level can recognize some key parts of a discussion on familiar themes. Students can go after a limited amount of significant details during conversations on the telephone and personally, in addition to simple statements and news reports. Students can follow a discussion or conversation for some sentences but may have difficulty with understanding everything longer.
L
Below Intermediate
A listening proficiency rating of L denotes that students are at the Below Intermediate level. They can understand only the general phrases and words used to give essential personal information and social greetings, or used to talk about present time and place. Students are beginning to understand the most important ideas of whole sentences but have complexity understanding the majority of sentences.
