| HSPT Scoring | The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is a 298-question exam that is used to evaluate students from dissimilar mid dle schools for admission into private Catholic high schools. The multiple choice test determines your knowledge in math, reading, quantitative and language skills.
School administrators use HSPT scores to compare students from different schools. Admission standards differ from school to school, so be sure to check with every school to which you are applying.
1. You should understand that passing scores are set by the individual state's Board of Education.
2. Be familiar with the five ability areas for which you will be tested: verbal, quantitative, reading, math and language.
3. Recognize your raw score. Every of the five skill areas are scored independently based on the amount of questions you answer.
4. Understand that your raw score will be changed into a normal score. HSPTs are scored from the whole low of 200 up to an overall high of 800.
5. Know what defines a passing score. Scores reported as "Proficient" and "Advanced Proficient" are considered passing.
6. Know what defines a failing score. Scores reported as "Partially Proficient" are supposed to be failing scores.
7. Be familiar with the fact that you must pass all five sections so as to pass the HSPT. There is no weighted average pass or fail score.
Tips • You need to retake that one section and not the whole test if you fail one section of the test.
• There are exceptions from taking the test, for example children who have Limited English Proficiency.
• Retake the test as soon as probable if you get a Partially Proficient score.
• If you cannot attain a Proficient score, a Supplemental Review Assessment may be conducted.
• You will be required to go to supplemental classes if you do not receive a Proficient Score.
• If you do not pass either the HSPT or the SRA by your senior year, you will not be capable of graduating from high school.
