1. Can you apply to sit the test by phone or online? No. You have to come in person to the Test Centre to complete an application form.
2. Can you apply without a passport? No. An original and current and applicable passport or your National Identity Card, are the only suitable forms of the person’s recognition.
3. What test module to choose? It is your responsibility to make certain you have opted for the right test module. If you are hesitant, you should check with the organization who has asked you to take the test to establish what their requirements are.
4. What can you bring into the examination room? You can bring with you only your passport, registration card, pens, pencils and erasers. You are not allowed to use the correction fluid. You must leave everything which you do not need, or which is not permitted, either outside the examination room, or as instructed by the manager. Mobile phones and pagers must be switched off and placed with personal belongings in the area designated by the supervisor. Any applicant who does not switch off their phone, or who retains one in their possession, will be disqualified.
5. How long will it take for the results to come out? The IELTS test report forms are issued to every candidate within 13 days after taking the test. Results are usually mailed to the address given on the application form. You cannot get your results over the telephone, by fax or email.
6. How many copies of your test result are you entitled to have? You are only permitted to have one copy of your, Test Report Form. If a university or an institution requires a copy of your IELTS test result the testing institution will send it in a straight line on your behalf. You will need to fill out the suitable part on your application form and give a self-addressed, registered envelope.
7. What can you do if you are not happy with your result? You may apply for an Enquiry on Results within six weeks of the date you sat the test. It will cost you additional money to take the test once more.
8. Can you be tested only on the components that you require? No. If you wish to resit the IELTS test, you must take all four components.
9. What happens if you are missing the day of the test without giving prior notice? You will lose the full test fee. Although, if a medical certificate is given within five days of the test date, the full fee will be repaid minus an administrative deduction.
10. What happens if you are delayed by situations beyond your control (eg a transportation strike)? You will be proposeed an alternative test date as soon as possible.
11. What happens in case of losing your test report form? You have the choice of applying for 5 extra copies of their test result free of charge at the time of making their test application. The extra test report forms will not be sent to the candidates themselves, but to academic institutions that require it. After the test, you can apply to the centre that administered their test for extra copies up to within two years of sitting the test.
12. What help is obtainable for special needs candidates? The Test centre makes every attempt to cater for the special needs of candidates, to make possible for them to best understand questions and tasks in order to give their answers. Candidates with special needs are advised to apply between six weeks and three months beforehand to make possible suitable arrangements to be made.
