1. Practice improves the skill. When practicing use practice tests and try to simulate the actual testing environment as closely as possible (meaning no breaks, snacks, music, phone calls, etc);
2. Try to remember the rules for each section of the sat beforehand. This way you can use this time during the exam to begin right away with answering the questions;
3. Ty to work at a certain constant pace. Don’t think over one difficult question. You will waste much time in such a case. practice setting a steady pace by taking practice exams on your own;
4. Coming own to the end of a list, the level of difficulty of questions increases, make sure that you get all the easy questions correct and that only answer the difficult questions which you know the answer to. Try to guess. guessing incorrectly actually results in the deduction of points (except for the open ended questions);
5. Easy multiple choice questions are worth the same as the difficult multiple choice questions, so don't rush through the easy ones just to get to the difficult ones, make sure you answer the easy ones correctly first since there is more chance of answering those correctly;
6. For the multiple choice questions the answer is right in front of you on the page, the challenge is picking the correct one; sometimes it is easier to pick out which answers you know are wrong first before picking the correct answer. But don’t rely much on it and use the process of elimination to help you get the question right;
7. You should always read the task carefully. There are some multiple choice questions that ask you to select the answer that is incorrect, make sure you select the incorrect answer and not one of the correct ones by mistake;
8. Learn the eight types of questions and the test directions for all the question types ahead of time, the test directions for the eight types of questions are always the same, know them ahead of time and you will not need to spend time reading them during the test;
9. Become familiar with the answer sheet and how to enter the information required;
10. Mark only one answer to each question;
11. Take care when filling in the answer grid for the student-produced response questions (grid-ins);
12. Avoid stray marks on the answer sheet, a machine scores your test and can't distinguish between a correct answer and a careless doodle;
13. Don't change an answer unless you are certain you've made an error;
14. Try guessing, rule out as many choices as you can so that you have a better chance of guessing the right answer, if you can eliminate even one choice, then it is worthwhile make an educated guess;
15. Skip the question if you are not able to rule out any choice, this will avoid the penalty of losing ¼ point if you get the answer wrong;
16. Check that you are marking your answer in the correct section and number on the answer sheet.
17. SAT consists of a series of separately timed tests, keep track of the time you're allotted for each section and how much time remains.
18. Bring a watch or small clock to the test center, don't count on the center having a working clock there; and even if they do, your seating position may not give you a good view of the clock.
19. Read the words in the question carefully, be sure to answer the question asked and not the question you recall from a practice test.
