struggling_student• Is your child getting lower grades than usual?
• Is her attitude towards studying becoming more casual?
• Does she forget to bring homework from school?
• Does she seem indifferent about completing her homework on time?
• Does she seem to be feeling ill more often than usual?
• Does she take too long to complete her assignments?

If you notice any of these symptoms in your child, she may be showing the warning signals of a struggling student. Though your child has been doing reasonably well in school for the last few years, of late she does not show much commitment or enthusiasm towards her academics. Students is careless about doing her/his homework and appears to be challenged in class.

Discuss the problem openly with your child
Some children are more comfortable discussing their challenges with their parents while others may not want to discuss these with anyone because either they are themselves unaware of because they don’t want to seem “weak.”However, as a parent, when you see any of these symptoms, you should be concerned. Noticing at the right time, providing the right help and right guidance can make a major difference. Parents help will enable children to improve their performance and self-confidence.

Take Blame Out Of Your Discussion
Each child is wired differently. Some of them breeze through academics while others struggle at various points. There are children who are very good at sports while others find it “too much work.” Some of them are inherently outgoing and sociable while others are more reserved. As a parent you know your child like nobody else. You are aware of every strength and weakness intimately.

You should not blame your child for his or her skill gaps in Math, Science, English or some other subject. It is good idea to create a plan that will help and encourage your child to do better. Concentrate on a goal and find a way to achieve it.

Talk with your child’s schoolteacher
Discuss with your child’s teacher about his or her academic performance and contribution in the classroom. Teachers acutely know how each child behaves in their class. Teachers track differences in homework quality, timely submissions, school project submissions, and other assignments or tasks. With the help of a detailed conversation with the school teacher, you will know some pointers about your child’s performance. You will also identify the sources of your child’s difficulties and possible reasons for his or her lower performance.
